The ARTIS Myanmar (Burma) Program
GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
To introduce students and professionals to Myanmar and its rich culture and artistic heritage. To provide opportunities for students to express their impressions through field exercises.
TWO WEEK PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Students will have the opportunity to work and make art “on location” within a wide range of environments, such as historic city centers, famous parks and gardens, temples, and in the hills and hill towns throughout Myanmar. The Program will have daily field trips to temples, traditional markets and artist workshops throughout Myanmar with excursions to Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan, Pindaya and Inle Lake. A visual journal will be recommended, where impressions are recorded in mixed media. Photography will be encouraged for everyone.
A few of the many advantage of educational study in Myanmar are:
- the impact of the art and traditional environment of Myanmar on a student’s educational development and world view,
- important exposure to major cultural sites of Eastern civilization,
- an opportunity to develop intellectual curiosity, formulate goals, use initiative, reasoning, and analytical skills before the actual sites of artistic and historical importance.
Students will receive individual instruction and guidance from instructors, as well as, authorities on Myanmar art, culture and history. They will develop their artistic skills in an environment that has stimulated artists for centuries, while they establish confidence in their abilities to study and research in a foreign country.
